Now here’s a unique idea for your wedding that’s worth getting excited about! Whether you’re having an eco-friendly wedding or just want something creative to display for your guests, moss graffiti is sure to impress!

I think this would look perfect at an outdoor, garden wedding. You could write your names, a touching quote, song lyric or cover your palette with hearts!

Painting moss on the wall at your venue might not be an option (you could always ask the co-ordinator or venue manager) but it would be just as easy to write on a piece of drywall or board and grow your graffiti at home.

I haven’t tried it just yet, but here’s how to create your moss graffiti:

You will need:

1 or 2 clumps of moss (about a small handful)

2 cups of buttermilk (or substitute with yogurt)

2 cups of water (or beer)

1/2 teaspoon of sugar

Steps:

1. Decide what you would like to write or draw in moss, and outline it on a wall in chalk. You could use a stencil or monogram, or draw freehand.

2. Collect a handful of moss. Once you start looking for it you’ll see it everywhere! Try under some big shady trees in a damp area.

3. Wash the moss to get as much soil out of the roots as possible.

4. Break the moss apart into manageable pieces and place in blender.

5. Add the buttermilk/yogurt, water/beer and sugar. Blend to the consistency of a thickshake. Add some water if the mixture is too thick.

6. Pour mixture into a container with a lid.

7. You can use a brush to paint your moss onto concrete walls, rocks, or brick. Mist the moss once a day to help it thrive, and soon your green graffiti will take hold!

Tips: Keep the additional moss mixture in the fridge – it’s worth reapplying the mixture every few days until you run out. You should start to see the moss establish itself on the wall/surface after a week, and you can expect it to take about a month until it’s fully established. It’s also best to choose a wall that isn’t exposed to long periods of direct sunlight.
